South Korea&#039;s military has conducted an amphibious landing drill involving Marines and Navy personnel as part of its regular field exercise.
                
The drill was held on the shore of Pohang in the country&#039;s southeast on Wednesday. About 40 amphibious vehicles, around 10 military vessels and other armaments were mobilized.
                
The drill was part of regular Hoguk maneuver exercises that run through Friday.  It was designed to practice landing on enemy territory and seize a target area.
                
Service members carrying automatic rifles came out of armored vehicles, when they made landfall.
                
A Marine Corps colonel said that through the drill, members will be equipped with the capability and preparedness to respond immediately under any circumstances.
                
The South Korean military says the drill simulated complex enemy threats, including those from North Korea&#039;s nuclear arms and missiles.
                
Last Wednesday, the South Korean military conducted drills with US forces, including a river-crossing exercise.
                
North Korea has fired ballistic and other missiles as well as artillery shells with an unprecedented frequency this year.
                
The South Korean military stressed with the drill its stance to respond firmly against Pyongyang&#039;s military provocations.
