US may abandon efforts to end war in Ukraine NHK

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that the United States may have to abandon its efforts and move on, if it is not possible to end the war in Ukraine.



Rubio spoke to reporters before he departed from Paris.



The secretary indicated that at a certain point President Donald Trump will probably say, "Well, we're done."



He said: "We're not going to continue with this endeavor for weeks and months on end. So we need to determine very quickly now, and I'm talking about a matter of days."



The top US diplomat was apparently hinting that the mediation efforts with Russia and Ukraine could end, if tangible progress in the ceasefire talks is not made quickly.
