Massive drone attacks hit Ukraine, Russia NHK

In Ukraine, a Russian missile and drone attack has killed at least two people, while six regions in Russia are thought to have been attacked by drones.

Ukraine's military announced that the Russia launched 28 missiles and 16 drones early on Wednesday. Ukraine says it shot down all the missiles and 15 of the drones.

Authorities in Kyiv say more than 20 missiles and drones were intercepted over the capital, but falling debris killed two guards in their 20s and 30s, and injured three people.

A city official said, "Kyiv has not experienced such a powerful attack since spring."

Meanwhile, Russia's defense ministry said on Wednesday that Ukraine launched drone attacks on five regions in Russia, but all the drones were shot down.

The targeted regions include Bryansk in the west bordering Ukraine, the outskirts of the capital Moscow and Kaluga, neighboring Moscow.

Russia's state-run Tass news agency reported on Wednesday that a military airport in the northwestern region of Pskov was attacked by drones overnight, damaging four Ilyushin-76 transport planes.

The Associated Press says the drone attacks on six Russian regions appear to be the biggest on Russian soil since Moscow began invading Ukraine.

Fighting over the Russian-annexed Crimea in southern Ukraine is intensifying as well.

Russian authorities said on Wednesday that they repelled a seaborne drone attack by Ukraine near Crimea.

Russia's defense ministry said it destroyed four high-speed boats believed to have been carrying up to 50 Ukraine special forces personnel in the Black Sea.
