Xi says China aims to significantly boost economic power by 2035 NHK

China's Communist Party says it aims to make major strides in increasing the country's economic power by 2035 and advancing scientific technology.

A report outlining the country's overall development objectives was submitted on Sunday to the National Congress.

The report says China aims to substantially grow the per capita GDP to be on par with that of a mid-level developed nation.

President Xi Jinping says in the report that his country must accelerate efforts to foster a new development pattern, which "features positive interplay between domestic and international economic flows."

Xi stresses the country's position is to keep opening up the Chinese market to overseas businesses, while focusing on the domestic economy.

The president says China will pursue high-quality development by expanding domestic industries and consumer demand.

He also pledges to enhance the resilience and safety of supply chains, apparently with a US rivalry in mind.

Xi says China will accelerate the implementation of the innovation-driven development strategy to achieve greater self-reliance and strength in science and technology.
