Japan's health ministry says it confirmed 5,767 new cases of coronavirus in Tokyo on Monday.
That is up 1,148 from a week ago. The daily tally rose week-on-week for the fourth day in a row.
The ministry also confirmed six deaths.
There are 17 seriously ill patients who are on ventilators or ECMO heart lung machines. The number is the same as Sunday.
Nationwide, 49,117 new infections and 103 deaths were confirmed on Monday.
