A Japanese medical team has arrived in Myanmar, where a massive earthquake on Friday has so far left more than 2,800 people dead.



Myanmar's ruling military says the death toll from the magnitude 7.7 tremor that hit the central part of the country now stands at 2,886, with 4,639 others injured and 373 missing.



Rescue teams from around the world are searching for survivors.



In the capital Naypyitaw, a man was pulled alive from the rubble on Wednesday after having been trapped for more than 100 hours.



Also on Wednesday, a 32-member disaster relief team from Japan, including doctors and nurses, arrived in the biggest city of Yangon.



The team plans to provide care for survivors for about two weeks.



The earthquake has devastated a wide area, and search and rescue efforts have been slow and limited. The military expects the death toll to surpass 3,000.



In neighboring Thailand, authorities say 15 people have been confirmed dead at the site of a collapsed skyscraper under construction in the capital Bangkok.
More than 70 others remain unaccounted for.



The tower had been a joint venture between a major Thai construction company and a Chinese state-run firm.



Revelations that this Chinese state-run firm has been involved in multiple projects, such as a high-speed railway and an airport terminal, are raising concerns about safety among the public in Thailand.
