Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has thanked his Philippine counterpart, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., for supporting his country's bid to uphold the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Zelenskyy arrived in the Philippines after attending an Asian security conference known as the Shangri-La Dialogue that was held in Singapore until Sunday. At the conference, he called on nations to participate in a peace summit scheduled for mid-June in Switzerland, aiming to realize a peace plan he advocates. Zelenskyy met Marcos in person for the first time at the presidential palace in Manila on Monday. The Philippines faces increasing coercive actions by China in the South China Sea. Marcos welcomed Zelenskyy, saying, "It is a great pleasure to meet with you to discuss some of the issues that are common to our two countries and hopefully find ways forward for both of us together." Zelenskyy responded, "We are very thankful to be in your country, which supports Ukraine, our territorial integrity and sovereignty." During the talks, Marcos said, "We will continue to do all that we can to promote peace and to bring an end to the fighting and to come to a political resolution of your country." He also agreed to take part in the upcoming peace summit. The two leaders confirmed their cooperation based on their shared stance against violations of sovereignty.
