A high-ranking US government official says President Joe Biden will meet Japan's Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol on the sidelines of the Group of Seven Hiroshima Summit. The Biden administration official told reporters on Monday that the three-way summit will be held while Biden is in Hiroshima to attend the G7 summit, which kicks off on May 19. The official, however, didn't disclose a detailed schedule. It would be the first summit involving the three countries since their leaders met in Cambodia last November. Biden has welcomed the recent attempt by Tokyo and Seoul to mend the ties. When Yoon visited Washington last month, Biden stressed the importance of cooperation between the three countries. Experts say Biden is eager to boost the alliance between the US, Japan and South Korea in the face of challenges in the Indo-Pacific region, including those involving China and North Korea.
