B: Nope, what was it?

A: Turns out, it was an earthquake! Not a big one though, just a lower 5 on the Japanese scale. Happened around 4 in the morning in Toshima Village, Kagoshima Prefecture.

B: Oh, that's good then. Was there any tsunami threat?

A: Nah, they said it's all clear. The epicenter was near the Tokara island chain, about 30 kilometers deep.

B: Sounds like it hit a few islands though, right? Akusekijima Island, Kodakarajima Island, and Amami City too.

A: That's right! They measured an intensity of lower 5 on Akusekijima Island and a 3 on the other two.

B: And just to let you know, another similar quake hit Toshima Village on Monday. So, stay safe out there!

A strong earthquake with an intensity of lower 5 on the Japanese scale of 0 to 7 was observed at around 4:32 a.m. on Wednesday in Toshima Village in Kagoshima Prefecture, southwestern Japan. There is no tsunami threat.



An intensity of lower 5 was observed on Akusekijima Island in Toshima Village and 3 on Kodakarajima Island also in the same village, and Amami City.



The magnitude of the quake is estimated at 5.0, with the epicenter near the Tokara island chain at a depth of 30 kilometers.
