The South Korean defense ministry says the US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan will make a port call in the southeastern city of Busan on Thursday.
                
The ministry also said the Ronald Reagan, based in Yokosuka, near Tokyo, will stay at the Busan port until Monday.
                
It will be the first visit of a US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier to South Korea since March.
                
The South Korean ministry says &quot;regular visibility&quot; of US forces serves as a deterrence to North Korea.
                
The South Korean navy also referred to the North&#039;s announcement that it plans to launch a spy satellite this month.
                
They said the US port call will be an opportunity to strengthen the defense system to quickly respond to North Korea&#039;s provocations.
                
The Ronald Reagan took part in a joint exercise among Japan, the US and South Korea in the East China Sea on Monday and Tuesday.
                
Observers say North Korea may respond to the moves with a ballistic missile launch or some other action.
