A Palestinian man opened fire at a synagogue in Jerusalem on Friday night, killing seven people. The gunman was shot dead by Israeli police. The synagogue is in an Israeli settlement. The settlements are considered illegal under international law. The incident follows Israeli military operations on Thursday in the West Bank city of Jenin and elsewhere that killed 10 Palestinians, including civilians. Thirty Palestinians have been killed in January as a result of Israeli military operations. Tensions have been mounting between Israelis and Palestinians.
