The pilot of the Japan Coast Guard plane involved in a collision at Tokyo&#039;s Haneda Airport says his plane was hit from behind after he increased engine power of his aircraft.
                
A Japan Airlines passenger jet collided with the smaller coast guard aircraft on the runway on Tuesday, immediately after it touched down. Both planes burst into flames.
                
Five of the six coast guard members on board died in the accident. The surviving pilot sustained serious injuries.
                
All 379 passengers and crew on board the JAL plane were evacuated safely. The 15 passengers who sustained injuries or felt unwell have been treated at hospitals.
                
Sources say the pilot of the coast guard aircraft claimed after the collision that his aircraft was hit from behind when he increased engine power.
                
The sources add the pilot also asserted that he had entered the runway after receiving permission to do so from air traffic controllers. The sources quoted him as saying that he had received permission for a take-off.
                
The transcript of radio communication between the controllers and the pilots of the two aircraft released by the transport ministry does not show that such permissions were given to the coast guard plane.
                
Both the controllers and JAL pilots were apparently not aware of the presence of the coast guard plane on the runway.
                
Japan&#039;s Transport Safety Board has been looking into the movements of the coast guard plane in the lead-up to the fatal collision.
