Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has made a visit to the embattled southern region of Kherson, where he promised 'victory' over Russian forces.

Zelenskyy made the remarks on Thursday. He had watched the Russians take over Kherson early in the invasion, but Ukrainian troops have partly recaptured it. He promised to "restore everything."

Russian forces have targeted much of Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Zelenskyy visited a power station to check on the progress of repairs. However, some residents expressed larger concerns.

When asked by one woman when there will be victory, Zelenskyy said, "This is the most important thing. But there will be a victory."

Ukrainian forces have received their first shipments of tanks from the West and are waiting for more advanced models. A Ukrainian commander said on Thursday that his troops could launch a counteroffensive "very soon."

Some allies, including those from neighboring Poland, have agreed to provide Soviet-era jets. Officials from Slovakia have sent four MiG-29s, with more to come in the next few weeks.

Many Ukrainian pilots are familiar with the planes and won't have to be trained to fly them. However, some say that they need more modern weaponry.

One Ukrainian pilot said, "Western nations have delayed providing us with fighter jets, tanks and long-range missiles. And our causalities continue to rise."

He added that he wants modern jets like the F-16. However, many NATO leaders believe providing even the older models is crossing a red line. Some have been leery of sending weapons that could be seen as escalating the conflict.
