Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared an Easter ceasefire, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Russia has continued to attack his country. Putin announced the 30-hour ceasefire from 6 p.m. on Saturday, Moscow time, until the end of Sunday. He said he had ordered Russian troops to stop all hostilities. Zelenskyy wrote on social media on Sunday that the Russian military is "attempting to create the general impression of a ceasefire." He added that Russian forces are still continuing isolated attempts in some areas to advance and inflict losses on Ukraine. He said there were instances of shelling and assaults in the eastern region of Donetsk and elsewhere. Zelenskyy urged Moscow to accept Ukraine's proposal to extend the ceasefire for 30 days after Easter. Ukrainians visited a monastery in central Kyiv to celebrate Easter. They brought baskets of eggs decorated with patterns and traditional sweets to be blessed by a priest. A 34-year-old man said he thinks Putin's ceasefire declaration is just a political gesture for Russian people. A 38-year-old woman said a drone was shot down near her house on the day when the truce was announced. She is skeptical of the ceasefire, saying Russia wants to use it for bargaining. A 38-year-old man called Russia a "terrorist state" and said he does not trust the country. He added that Ukrainians just want to live for the future and see how their children will grow.
