Moscow unleashed massive attacks across Ukraine on the eve of the New Year. Missile strikes in the capital Kyiv left one person dead. Twenty others were injured, including a Japanese journalist. Explosions were heard near a hotel in Kyiv housing NHK correspondents. Local media say the airstrikes damaged several buildings, including a hotel and an educational facility. The Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun says one of its journalists, Sekita Wataru, was injured outside the hotel where he is staying. He was treated for a leg injury at a local hospital.
