Media: Israel proposes 40-day ceasefire in Gaza NHK

Israel has reportedly proposed a 40-day truce in the Gaza Strip in exchange for around 10 hostages and the provision of information on all remaining hostages on the ceasefire deal with Hamas.



On Monday, Israeli media reported on the latest proposal.



A 6-week halt to fighting between Israel and Hamas, which they agreed upon as their first phase, began in January and expired on March 1.



Hamas was earlier reported to have agreed to a proposal to release five hostages in exchange for extending the ceasefire for a certain period. The focus is on how the Islamic group will respond to Israel's latest proposal.



Israel resumed massive airstrikes on March 18.



Palestinian media reported on Monday that at least 17 people including children were killed due to Israeli airstrikes.



Local health authorities also said more than 1,000 people had died in about two weeks since Israel resumed its offensive.
