Heavy rain has been pounding the southern Japanese region of Kyushu over the weekend. Weather officials are calling on people in the area to be on the alert for landslides and floods. An active front remains stationary around Kyushu, bringing torrential rain. Up to 65 millimeters of rain was recorded in an hour in Oita Prefecture on Monday morning. Officials have issued landslide alert for some areas in Kumamoto, Fukuoka and Oita prefectures. Several rivers in Fukuoka and Miyazaki prefectures are at high risk of flooding. Weather officials say the front is expected to remain around Kyushu, bringing more than 50 millimeters of rain per hour. They are advising people of the possibility of landslides, floods, lightning and tornadoes.
