Russian night club fire kills 13 people NHK

Thirteen people died after a fire broke out at a nightclub in the western part of Russia on Saturday. Authorities detained a 23-year-old man who had reportedly returned from the war in Ukraine.

The fire took place at a night club in Kostroma, about 300 kilometers northeast of Moscow.

Investigative authorities say the suspect fired what appeared to be a flare gun and its fire eventually spread to ceiling decorations.

State-run Tass news agency says the man admitted to the charges.

A relative of the suspect told local news outlets that the man returned from the battle in Ukraine after being injured in August.
