A: Hey there! Guess what's happening these days?
   B: What's up? I don't know anything new.

A: Well, you should check out the hop growers in Fukushima! Their harvest season is going full steam!
   B: Really? I had no idea! Who helped them start this business?

A: Eight years ago, a beer brewery stepped in to help after the nuclear accident back then. They started hop cultivation in Tamura City.

Residents had been forced to evacuate temporarily after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident in 2011.
        
                    
                  
Today, the brewery and three farms are growing hops on about 9,000 square meters of land.
        
                    
                  
Harvesting began last week at Nitta Hiroshi&#039;s hop field. About 10 people took part on Monday, including family members and neighbors.
        
                    
                  
This year they have been starting work at around 4:30 a.m., about two-and-a-half hours earlier than last year, to beat the scorching heat.
        
                    
                  
Nitta says most hops are machine-harvested, but that his are carefully picked by hand. He says he hopes his hops will be enjoyed in locally brewed beers.
