A: Hey there! Guess what's happening these days? B: What's up? I don't know anything new. A: Well, you should check out the hop growers in Fukushima! Their harvest season is going full steam! B: Really? I had no idea! Who helped them start this business? A: Eight years ago, a beer brewery stepped in to help after the nuclear accident back then. They started hop cultivation in Tamura City. B: Oh, that's sad. But I'm glad they're doing well now. How big is their farm? A: They've got around 9,000 square meters of land! The brewery and three farms are working together on this. B: Wow, that's quite a bit! And who started the harvesting this year? A: Nitta Hiroshi began harvesting last week! Around 10 people helped out, including family members and neighbors. B: That's great teamwork! So, when does their work start each day? A: They usually get up at around 4:30 a.m. to beat the heat since they harvest by hand. Most hops are machine-harvested but not Nitta's! B: That's dedication! What do they hope for their crops? A: Nitta hopes that his hops will be enjoyed in locally brewed beers! The harvest should continue until around August 20th. B: Cool! I can't wait to try some of those beers made from the local hops! ---------------- The harvest season is in full swing for hop growers in a small community in Fukushima Prefecture. Hop cultivation began about eight years ago in Tamura City after a beer brewery stepped in to help rebuild the community. Residents had been forced to evacuate temporarily after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident in 2011. Today, the brewery and three farms are growing hops on about 9,000 square meters of land. Harvesting began last week at Nitta Hiroshi's hop field. About 10 people took part on Monday, including family members and neighbors. This year they have been starting work at around 4:30 a.m., about two-and-a-half hours earlier than last year, to beat the scorching heat. Nitta says most hops are machine-harvested, but that his are carefully picked by hand. He says he hopes his hops will be enjoyed in locally brewed beers. The harvest will continue until around August 20. ---------------- Quiz 1: Question text: What industry stepped in to help rebuild the community in Tamura City? A. Agriculture B. Fishing C.
