US authorities sue Amazon over prime service signups NHK

The US Federal Trade Commission has filed an action against online retail giant Amazon.
It says the firm is enrolling customers into its paid Prime subscription service without their consent.

The FTC said on Wednesday that Amazon has "duped millions of consumers" into becoming Prime members, costing them "significant money."

It says the firm also makes it difficult for users to cancel. The FTC says it's seeking fines.

Amazon responded by saying the commission's claims are false on the facts and the law.
It says that the company makes it clear and simple for customers to both sign up and cancel their Prime membership.

Analysts say the outcome of the suit could have serious impact on the firm's business model.
