Ukrainian media reported on Monday that a new homegrown long-range drone missile was used to strike a Russian military target in occupied Crimea last month.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy referred to a new weapon used in the attack in late August, but did not disclose any details.

Ukrainian media said several dozen Russian military airfields are within the new drone missile's range. Ukraine has been hampered by Western nations' unwillingness to let it use their long-range weapons against Russia.

Meanwhile, Russia's defense ministry announced on Monday that its troops took control of the village of Skuchne in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk.

Ukraine apparently hopes its cross-border incursion into Russia will help tamp down Russian offensives in eastern Ukraine.

But on Monday, Russia's President Vladimir Putin said Russian troops are advancing faster in eastern Ukraine than they have done for a long time.

Ukraine's State Emergency Service said on Tuesday that a woman and her child were killed in a Russian attack in Zaporizhzhia in southern Ukraine. It also said that one person was killed and six others wounded in a missile attack in Dnipro in eastern Ukraine.
