North Korea says the Supreme People's Assembly will be convened on January 22 to discuss revising some provisions of the Constitution, among other issues. Friday's edition of the Rodong Sinmun, the ruling Workers' Party newspaper, reported that the meeting will also discuss the country's tasks for 2025, its budgets and personnel matters, among other topics. North Korea convenes the Supreme People's Assembly once or twice a year, most recently in October. In the January session, leader Kim Jong Un called for the Constitution to be revised to define South Korea as the "No.1 hostile nation." He also urged the deletion of some expressions, such as "peaceful unification." But North Korea has not announced any specific details of the revisions. Attention is focused on how the Constitution may be changed in the upcoming session to reflect the leadership's stance on South Korea. South Korea has been in turmoil since President Yoon Suk-yeol declared emergency martial law on Tuesday night. The decision was reversed hours later.
