Japan health ministry confirms 13,646 new coronavirus cases in Tokyo on Sunday NHK

Japan's health ministry says it confirmed 13,646 new cases of the coronavirus in Tokyo on Sunday, up 1,483 from a week ago.

The daily tally has marked a week-on-week increase for 13 straight days.

The ministry also reported 15 deaths in the capital.

The number of seriously ill patients on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines was 32, down one from Saturday.

Nationwide, 136,237 new infections and 232 deaths were confirmed on Sunday.
