The New York Times reported on Sunday that a US-made Patriot anti-missile system will be transferred from Israel to Ukraine. The report cites officials in Washington as sources. It says discussions are underway to transfer another Patriot unit from either Germany or Greece. The two systems would bring the total number in Ukraine's arsenal to ten. Officials declined to say whether President Donald Trump approved the transfers. Trump is planning a visit to the Middle East this month, which has fueled speculation that he may meet for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said Putin will not be traveling to the region at that time. He added that Russia is willing to continue dialogue. Peskov said: "It must be properly prepared, and this requires efforts at various expert levels. It requires continuing contacts between Moscow and Washington." Peskov said contacts are already underway between the two sides. Russia is apparently looking to keep the US engaged as a mediator in negotiations for a potential ceasefire.
