Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Chinese President Xi Jinping after the Chinese leader secured his third term as president.

The message was released by the Kremlin on Friday.

Putin said that Russia highly appreciates the Chinese president's personal contribution to strengthening relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction between the two countries.

The Russian president also called for further enhancing cooperation with China, apparently with Ukraine and Taiwan in mind.

He went on to say, "I am confident that working together, we will ensure the further growth of fruitful Russian-Chinese cooperation in various fields."
