State-run Korean Central Television aired footage of Kim attending a ceremonial event, which took place the day before, with his wife Ri Sol Ju and their daughter.

The broadcaster also released a photo showing a former aide to Kim, Hwang Pyong So, posing with the leader and other army officials. Hwang is known to have been dismissed from his post as a member of the ruling Workers' Party's political bureau sometime before 2018.

Meanwhile, experts on North Korea are speculating that the country will likely hold a large-scale military parade on Wednesday for the first time since April as part of the celebrations.
