Foreign ministers from Japan, the United States, Australia and India are meeting in Tokyo. This is the first time in four years for the Quad countries' top diplomats to convene in the Japanese capital. The talks began on Monday morning, attended by Japan's Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. In her opening remarks as the chair, Kamikawa noted that the international order is facing challenges. She said it is important for the four countries, which share the values of freedom and democracy, to work together in achieving a free and open Indo-Pacific based on the rule of law. The discussions are expected to cover issues such as China's increased maritime activities in the East and South China seas and the situation in North Korea. The ministers are also anticipated to confirm their joint efforts to address issues facing nations in the Indo-Pacific region. This would likely include support for improving cybersecurity capabilities, communications networks and maritime law enforcement capabilities. The Quad ministers are expected to release a joint statement on Monday.
