A new website from Tokyo-based company WAmazing is offering inbound visitors an easy way to do their tax-free shopping.
The firm built an online shopping site with an array of popular souvenirs, tax-free. Visitors click and buy, then get a QR code on their mobile phone.
When they leave Japan, they use the code and their passport to open a locker at their chosen airport or bus station.
WAmazing is touting it as a way to shop without having to lug the items with you on your travels.
The boxes have been installed in five locations around the country, including airports in Tokyo, Osaka and Sapporo.
