Taiwan's authorities have announced they will ease import restrictions on Japanese food products imposed after the March 2011 accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. The measure will allow imports of all food produced and distributed in Japan. The health ministry made the announcement on Wednesday. The restrictions were relaxed significantly in February 2022, but the suspension of some items remained in place. These included wild bird and animal meat as well as mushrooms from Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma and Chiba prefectures. Taiwanese authorities say items from the five prefectures still need to be accompanied by test results for radioactive materials, and are subject to inspections in Taiwan. All food items from Japan continue to be required to carry certificates of origin.
