Indonesian media say Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend next week's Group of 20 summit in Indonesia in person. The media quoted an Indonesian minister in charge of preparations for the summit as saying on Thursday that Putin will send his foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov, instead. Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan stopped short of giving the reason, but said Indonesia will respect Russia's decision. Indonesia is to host the summit on the island of Bali on November 15 and 16. Expected to be high on the agenda is food and energy security against the backdrop of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. A spokesperson at Russia's embassy in Indonesia told a Russian state-run news agency that Lavrov will lead the country's delegation at the G20. The official said how Putin will take part is still being worked out, adding that he could participate online.
