Holiday illumination starts at Imperial Palace in Tokyo NHK

The holiday illumination event has begun at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.

The lights were switched on at 5 p.m. Monday at locations including Nijubashi Bridge, Ote-mon Gate and Tatsumi-yagura turret.

The Imperial Palace has been holding the event at this time of year since 2012.

The illumination will run between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. every day through January 5.
