Thailand&#039;s Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai says he had a meeting on Sunday with Myanmar&#039;s de-facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who was ousted in a 2021 military coup and later jailed, and that she is in good health.
                
Don reported the visit at the meeting of foreign ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, held in the Indonesian capital Jakarta on Wednesday.
                
He said he visited the Nobel laureate in the Myanmar capital Naypyitaw, where she is being held.
                
It is the first time a foreign official has been granted a visit with Aung San Suu Kyi.
                
A spokesperson for Thailand&#039;s foreign ministry said that at the meeting, Aung San Suu Kyi spoke in support of dialogue and expressed concern about the toll the past two years have taken on the people of Myanmar and the economy.
                
Thailand has close ties with the military of neighboring Myanmar.
                
Senior officials of Malaysia and the Philippines, who have taken a tough stance against the junta, expressed concern about the visit. They told NHK the action by the Thai government undermines ASEAN unity.
