Electronics shipments in Japan up for second straight month NHK

Shipments of consumer electronics in Japan grew for the second straight month in September, as manufacturers raised their prices.

The Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association said that domestic deliveries last month totaled 105 billion yen, or about 700 million dollars. That's up 16.8 percent from September of last year.

The rise is attributed to the increase in product prices amid surging costs for logistics and materials. Another factor was the increase in shipments of car navigation systems following the recovery in auto production.

A growing number of manufacturers are raising prices for products such as Blu-ray recorders and portable TVs.

The association said the value of shipments grew more than volume, indicating that more companies are raising prices. It said it plans to monitor whether inflation prompts consumers to hold off on purchases.
