Japan's Emperor Naruhito and Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf have attended a seminar in Tokyo on the importance of water in tackling climate change. The Swedish Embassy and a Stockholm-based water research institute co-hosted the event at the UN University Headquarters in Tokyo on Friday. Emperor Naruhito has been studying water-related issues for a long time. He and the Swedish king were joined by about 300 experts and others at the seminar. One of the keynote speakers was University of Tokyo Professor Oki Taikan, an expert on the circulation of water on Earth. Oki suggested that debate on water management cannot start unless nature, including forests, dams and other infrastructure, and their human coordinators are all sustainable. King Carl XVI Gustaf visited Japan for the World Expo in Osaka. On Thursday, Emperor Naruhito, along with Empress Masako and their daughter Princess Aiko, hosted the king for dinner at the Imperial Palace.
