A: Hey John, have you heard about the news?
   B: No, what's up?

A: Seems like our government isn't doing a great job at keeping data safe! The Board of Audit checked 356 info systems in 40 government offices and found that 58 of them are super outdated. They didn't even update their software!

B: No way! And what about those access records?

A: Yeah, they missed those too for 102 systems! That means they can't do anything if someone sneaks in.

A: Plus, almost half of the systems used by government offices aren't even registered at the Digital Agency. So who knows what kind of security measures they have?

B: That doesn't sound good... I thought Japan was supposed to be advanced when it comes to technology.

A: It is, but not all parts are doing great. There are around 200 cyberattacks on the central government and their branches every year!

A: The Board says they'll keep an eye on this and make sure appropriate security measures are being taken. They want to ensure fail-safe info security.

B: That sounds like a good plan, but we've had some big incidents in the past. Like that pension service data leak in 2015 where over a million people's personal details were leaked!

A: And remember that hospital in Osaka that got attacked last year? Their electronic medical records system went down!

B: Oh right, and even the port of Nagoya was hit by ransomware last year. That really messed up container operations.

A: Exactly, it's important they get their act together. Hopefully, they'll do better next time.
