Senior officials from Japan, the United States and South Korea have agreed to work closely together to bring about the complete denuclearization of North Korea. Namazu Hiroyuki is the director-general of the Japanese Foreign Ministry's Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau. He met with US Special Representative for North Korea Sung Kim and South Korea's Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Kim Gunn in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta on Tuesday. The three stressed that they believe the unprecedented frequency of North Korea's ballistic missile launches poses a clear and serious challenge to the international community. They promised to cooperate to denuclearize North Korea. They cited an agreement reached by the leaders of the three countries at a summit in August. The meeting was held at the Camp David presidential retreat near Washington. Namazu said that he strongly condemns North Korea for ignoring UN Security Council resolutions. He urged Pyongyang to comply with obligations that are mandated by the international community. He also asked the US and South Korea to help tackle the abduction issue. The director-general noted it is a humanitarian problem that urgently needs to be solved.
