Hong Kong police have expanded their list of overseas-based individuals, including pro-democracy activists, who are wanted for allegedly violating the territory's national security law. The police on Thursday said they have added five more people who "absconded" from the territory to the list. This brings the total number of people on the list to 13. The five currently live in the United States or other countries outside China. The police suspect three of them of colluding with a foreign country or external elements to endanger national security. They accuse the other two of inciting secession and subversion online. The police are offering a reward of 1 million Hong Kong dollars, or about 128,000 US dollars, for information on each of the five. The five do not include pro-democracy activist Agnes Chow. She announced earlier this month that she left Hong Kong in September and is now in Canada. She was released from prison in June 2021 after serving a term for her role in a 2019 protest. Police have indicated they will press no additional charges on Chow if she returns to Hong Kong and reports to police this month as required by her bail terms. Pro-democracy campaigners have been leaving Hong Kong in growing numbers since the territory's national security law took effect in 2020.
