Japan, Ukraine launch financial dialogue NHK

Japan and Ukraine have launched a dialogue between their financial officials. The two sides confirmed that Japan will further enhance economic cooperation with Ukraine amid Russia's invasion of the country.

The talks took place in Kyiv on Wednesday. The Japanese delegation was led by Vice Minister of Finance for International Affairs Kanda Masato. The Ukrainian side was led by Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko.

A joint statement says Japan reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that Ukraine has the economic support it needs. Both sides agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation further.

The Japanese side also reaffirmed the Group of Seven leaders' determination to ensure that Russia pays for the long-term reconstruction of Ukraine. The officials said Japan will reinforce its efforts to achieve that goal.

Both sides agreed to hold continued dialogue to strengthen bilateral ties.

The face-to-face meeting in Kyiv was aimed at building a closer relationship between the two countries' financial officials and showing Japan's unwavering support for Ukraine as this year's chair of the G7.
