The US's cutting-edge F-35 fighter jets have made their debut at an aviation show in India -- a country currently seeking to procure weapons from sources other than Russia amid its invasion of Ukraine.
The fifth generation stealth aircraft from the US were on display alongside fighter jets from other countries at Aero India, which kicked off in Bengaluru on Monday.
The Russian-made Sukhoi, a mainstay of India's air force, and domestically developed Tejas fighters performed demonstration flights on the first day of the event.
The invasion of Ukraine prompted India's government to try to diversify its weapons suppliers. According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, 67 percent of the weapons it imported over the past 20 years were from Russia.
Western businesses see this exhibition -- which draws more than 800 companies from about 100 countries -- as a chance to increase their sales in India.
