Japan's nationwide group of atomic bomb survivors, known as hibakusha, has strongly condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin's announcement that his country will deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus. The Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations, or Nihon Hidankyo, released a statement on Wednesday. It says Putin's decision is a wrong tactic that will heighten the nuclear risk. The group also criticized Britain's decision to provide Ukraine with armor-piercing depleted uranium tank shells. It stressed that such weapons must not be used since "their radioactive material is known to impact the human body and the environment." The statement also says dialogue between countries is needed to end Russia's invasion of Ukraine, adding that there are no winners in war.
