Reports say Israeli airstrikes on Rafah leave more than 20 dead NHK

The Israeli military launched airstrikes on a residential area near a hospital in Rafah in southern Gaza on Thursday, with local media reporting that 21 people were killed.

Footage taken by Salam Abu Tahoun, a videographer at NHK's Gaza office, shows a wounded child being taken in an ambulance and treated by emergency workers.

It also shows people removing debris by hand to rescue the injured as they use smartphone lights in the dark near the bombed apartment building.

The images show that some of the rescued include an adult who was bleeding from the head and a limp baby.

Israeli forces have repeatedly bombarded the southern city of Khan Younis and other locations where they suspect the leaders of Hamas are hiding.

Rafah is located on the border with Egypt and is where many evacuees are taking shelter. Humanitarian aid is being transported into Gaza through the location, but the city has come under attack, leading to more civilian casualties.
