A: Hey there! Did you catch the news today? B: Nah, what's up? A: You know Governor Koike right? She had a chat with the UN chief in NY yesterday. B: Oh really? What did they talk about? A: Well, she suggested that some parts of the UN functions could be moved to Tokyo! Isn't that cool? B: Wow, seriously?! That's pretty big news! Why do you think she wants that? A: She mentioned safety and our weak yen as advantages. But she didn't give any specific proposals about inviting UN agencies yet. B: Hmm, I wonder if they'll actually do it... The UN is trying to cut costs right now because of the US admin. B: Parts of the UN Population Fund are already moving from New York to Nairobi due to high prices and personnel expenses there. A: Yeah, you're right. Seems like they're looking for ways to save money. But Governor Koike said Guterres responded positively to her offer. So who knows what might happen next! ---------------- Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko has proposed relocation of parts of the United Nation's functions to the Japanese capital during a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Koike met with the UN chief at the world body's headquarters in New York on Thursday. The governor told reporters after the talks that she offered Guterres Tokyo's support for diverse UN activities. Koike said she stressed that Tokyo had advantages including safety and the weak yen. She said she did not make specific proposals about inviting UN agencies. The governor said Guterres responded that the UN has received cooperation offers from around the world. In June, Koike proposed the relocation of functions of the UN Security Council, the World Health Organization and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development at the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly.
