Central Japan Railway has told the government it cannot meet a target to start the country's magnetically-levitated train service by 2027. The company says that objections from local authorities along the planned route has prevented the start of construction work. The Maglev train, which can hit top speeds of 500 kilometers an hour, is set to run between Tokyo's Shinagawa Station and Nagoya Station in Aichi Prefecture. JR Central told the transport ministry on Friday that construction of the line in the Shizuoka Prefecture section hasn't started even 6 years after the contract was signed. Local authorities have refused to approve the construction work, citing environmental concerns, such as threats to water levels in a major river. As a result of the objections, the company now says it cannot forecast when the service will start.
