Japanese police say about 10,000 officers will be deployed to the World Expo in Osaka that opens on April 13. Police announced on Thursday that the security personnel will include some 7,800 officers from the Osaka prefectural police and around 2,200 others from across Japan. The number is about 2.5 times the approximately 4,000 officers mobilized for the 2005 Expo in Aichi Prefecture and the largest for any Expo held in Japan. More than 28 million people are expected to visit the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, during the six months through October 13. The venue is located on the artificial island of Yumeshima in Osaka's Konohana ward. Police plan to implement measures against terrorism that will include aerial drones and put in place comprehensive counterterrorism measures amid the changing situation in Ukraine and the Middle East. Expo visitors will not be allowed to bring into the venue suitcases and other bags with attached casters. Police plan to provide information on such rules at train stations and airports to ask visitors for their cooperation.
