South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol did not attend the first hearing of his impeachment trial, resulting in an adjournment of the Constitutional Court in roughly four minutes.

The court is to decide whether to uphold Yoon's impeachment over his short-lived declaration last month of emergency martial law.

Yoon was absent from Tuesday's hearing, citing security concerns. His lawyer says investigators are trying to illegally execute a warrant for his detention.

The session ended without substantial deliberations.

The next hearing is scheduled for Thursday. The court is expected to proceed with the trial regardless of whether Yoon is present.

Asked if he will show up at the next hearing, Yoon's lawyer said the decision will be made after overall consideration of Tuesday's proceedings and what might happen from now.
