Floods batter tourist spots in Southeast Asia NHK

Monsoon rains have caused major floods in many parts of Southeast Asia, damaging tourist areas.

In Vietnam, the popular tourist destination Da Nang was submerged as torrential rains falling since late last week triggered huge floods in the center of the country.

Ten people, including four children, have been confirmed dead. Authorities warn a typhoon will likely approach the country later this week.

Meanwhile, Thailand's popular resort island, Phuket, saw its worst flooding in decades on Sunday after heavy rains the night before.

No casualties have been reported, but the storm felled utility poles, knocking out power briefly.

Floodwaters receded on Monday, but local officials are urging people to stay on high alert for the rest of the week.

Thailand fully reopened to foreign tourists this month.
