Some Ukrainians have chosen to celebrate Christmas on December 25 this year, rejecting traditional celebrations on January 7 that are also observed in Russia.
                
Christmas Eve services were held on Saturday in many churches across Ukraine.
                
Meanwhile, Russian forces continue their attacks. Governor Yaroslav Yanushevych of the Kherson region in southern Ukraine said on social media that at least 10 people were killed in a Russian attack on Saturday.
                
Reuters posted footage taken in Bakhmut, a key battleground in the eastern region of Donetsk. The video shows soldiers decorating a Christmas tree with colorful tinsel and ornaments as loud explosions were heard in the distance.
                
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy vowed in a video message released on Saturday that the country&#039;s struggle will continue without stopping. He said drones cannot extinguish the Christmas dawn.
                
The Russian side has ruled out the possibility of a truce during the Christmas and New Year period.
