North Korea's state-run media has criticized South Korean President Lee Jae-myung for referring to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula in a speech in the United States.



Lee delivered the speech on Monday at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington during his visit to the US.



He said it is important to pursue the goal of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula for the sake of lasting peace on the peninsula and in the world.



A commentary by North Korea's state-run Korean Central News Agency on Wednesday referred to Lee without using any honorific title.



It said Lee's speech proved that Pyongyang's understanding and judgment that Seoul is its permanent enemy were correct.



It said North Korea remains unchanged in its position of never abandoning nuclear weapons.



The commentary did not mention a summit meeting held on Monday between Lee and US President Donald Trump.



A South Korean media report said North Korea apparently avoided stimulating Trump, as Pyongyang hopes for US recognition as a nuclear power and a dialogue with Washington.
