Japan's health ministry said 3,489 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Tokyo on Monday. The tally increased by 1,468 from the same day last week and was 1.73 times the figure a week ago. The number of seriously ill patients in the capital on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines was unchanged from the previous day at 18. Authorities confirmed one death linked to the coronavirus.
