Japanese Major League Baseball star Ohtani Shohei of the Los Angeles Dodgers hit his 13th homerun of the season in a game against the Cincinnati Reds on Friday. His two-run blast came the same day the Los Angeles City Council officially proclaimed May 17 as "Shohei Ohtani Day."

Ohtani started as designated hitter, batting second in the game at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

In his second at-bat in the third inning, Ohtani connected on the first pitch, a more-than 150-kilometer-per-hour fastball that he crushed over the left field fence for his first homerun in three games.

His hit put him at the top of the homer tally in the National League.

Ohtani went one-for-four, keeping his batting average at .358, the highest in both the National and American leagues.

The Dodgers won the game 7-3.
